Why is my iTunes receipt so late?

|
July 15, 2008

What’s the deal with iTunes receipt emails coming so long after purchase? I can’t figure it out. Last week, for example, we had a luau and, since no luau is complete without the limbo, I of course bought Limbo Rock by Chubby Checker. The party was a week ago today, but I didn’t get get the receipt for my purchase until today. What’s more, the email lists the purchase date as July 12, four days after I actually purchased the song.

The problem also seems to be getting worse. Where before it was 24 hours until I got a receipt, now it’s a week. What’s up with that? Any ideas why that might be going on?

My thinking was that iTunes simply has an antiquated billing system that can no longer keep up with the number of purchases made in the store, pushing receipts back further and further; even dating the purchase much later than it actually occurred. This seems like an extremely poor way to communicate with customers, especially since the proof of purchase information is not just late, but incorrect.
